Using your phone to listen to music and using it for navigation are two of the most basic activities a person does on this cell phone. However, it is very annoying and tedious to use both the applications at the same time. Also, it is very dangerous to fiddle with your mobile when you are driving.
Keeping these issues in mind, Google recently rolled out a minor update which allows integration of music applications within the Google Maps.
Note this works for both Android and iOS devices.
Android allows 3 music app integration with Google Maps namely Google Play Music, Spotify, and Apple Music while Apple devices support the integration of only 2 applications namely Apple Music and Spotify.
Here’s how you can make the most of this new feature:
Step by step guide for Android devices:
Step 1: Update to the latest version of Google Maps. After updating Google Maps, the new version will show a black banner while in navigation mode. Click on this banner to set a default music app that will play through Google Maps.
Step 2: If no such banner appears don’t worry. Click on the hamburger menu and the top of the screen.
Step 3: On Android, navigate to Setting > Navigation Setting and turn on the switch that says ‘Show media playback controls.’
Step by step guide for Apple devices:
Step1: On iOS, open the hamburger menu and then Settings > Navigation > Music playback controls.
Step 2: A new page will now appear and provide the option to link your Apple Music or Spotify accounts. Link one or both, based on your choice and a button for the service(s) will appear in navigation mode on Google Maps. If you select Spotify, Google will ask for permission to connect Spotify with your Google account.
Step 3: The playback controls will appear at the bottom of the Google Maps app while you’re navigating.
